The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is a UN agency to protect the rights and well-being of refugees and displaced persons. Its mission is to ensure that those in need can seek asylum and safe refuge, safeguarding their basic human rights. At GHF MUN, the UNHCR committee addresses urgent refugee issues, such as displacement due to con resolutions, and collaborate on initiatives to improve the lives of refugees and ensure their protection. It is important in its advocacy for vulnerable populations. Further, simulating the UNHCR participants gain an insight into humanitarian challenges, the complexities of refugee crises and the need for global cooperation in addressing them.
The International Press committee plays an integral role in promoting freedom of expression and responsible journalism. It is important because a free press is essential for democracy and informed public discourse. At GHF MUN, participants engage in article writing, reporting, and creating compelling news stories. Each individual is assigned to a specific news portal, where they compete for the best article and the most engaging coverage of the conference. This dynamic committee encourages creativity, critical thinking, and the ability to present information in an impactful way.
Nepal’s bicameral system consists of the House of Representatives (HOR) and the National Assembly (NA). At GHF MUN, we simulate the प्रतिनिधि सभा (HOR), where delegates represent various members of parliament. In the HOR committee, participants engage in law-making and policy debates that reflect the Nepali people. This committee is vital for understanding governance and addressing key national issues such as social justice and economic growth. Participants will develop skills in public speaking, negotiation, and critical thinking while shaping the future of Nepal’s legislative landscape.
The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) addresses critical issues related to global security and disarmament. This committee is essential for fostering international dialogue and cooperation, aiming to prevent the escalation of con negotiations, draft resolutions, and collaborate on initiatives that address arms control and the disarmament of weapons of mass destruction. By simulating DISEC, participants develop vital diplomatic skills and a deeper understanding of the complexities of global security, preparing them to navigate real-world issues in a cooperative and informed manner.
The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) is a vital component of the United Nations focused on eradicating hunger and improving nutrition globally. The FAO works to ensure food security for all, addressing challenges like food production and climate change impacts. At GHF MUN, delegates in the FAO committee engage in discussions on food security issues, drafting resolutions aimed at innovative solutions to hunger and nutrition challenges. Participants develop diplomatic skills while understanding the complex relationship between agriculture and global development.
WORK PROGRESS
Participants will undergo comprehensive training provided by the GHF team and professionals. This training aims to enhance their preparedness and engagement during GHFMUN, ensuring a fulfilling experience for all involved.
Testimonials
On the first day of the MUN, we arrived at the venue, “Hotel Sarathi.” It was a very beautiful place. After some time, the opening ceremony started, during which we were introduced to all of our Chairpersons. It was exciting because this MUN was held far away from our homes. I was especially excited because I got a break from useless scolding. After a short tea break, our first committee session started. It was great, and we got to know more about the things that would happen in the committee.
On the second day, we were dressed semi-formally. During this session, I got nervous because the debate would start that day. However, I tried my best, gave many speeches, and passed some chits to other countries. It was amazing.
On the third day, the dress code was formal. During the session, I was surprised because a very important thing, the position paper, was ignored. However, there was a draft resolution, which was obvious because that’s what the committee stands for — passing or failing. Our committee got it passed.
At the closing ceremony, I got nervous because I didn’t know who would get the awards. Suddenly, my name was called. I got scared but stood up with the title of “OUTSTANDING DELEGATE.” I was happy.

I didn’t expect MUN to be so much fun, but after meeting the chairs of my UNHRC committee, I found them to be the most humble people I’ve ever met. Initially, I had a negative impression from the pre-conference, but that changed afterward.
Participating in GHF MUN was an incredible experience. The conference provided a platform to engage in meaningful discussions on global issues, enhancing my public speaking and negotiation skills. I appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with diverse participants and learned a great deal from the debates. It was truly inspiring!
